Take Your Home From Summer to Fall

I’m not here to dampen your day but I have some bad news: summer is almost over. I know, I know! It’s hard for me to grasp that concept, too. Someone turn back the clock!

I’m Ashley, home decor blogger from House of Five (you can find me @houseof5five on Instagram), and I live in the Seattle area. For us Seattleites, fall is a short season of beautiful and vibrant foliage, orange sunsets, pumpkin spice lattes, and then BAM! Winter comes like a ton of grey, damp bricks. I like to keep the vibrancy going as long as I can in my home before the grey, Seattle winter takes it’s toll.

Although fall is just around the corner, summer is lingering and I’m not ready to jump into orange leaves just yet. Today, I’m sharing some unconventional fall decor ideas that don’t include the typical staples we first think of when we think of fall. Here are just a few affordable ideas to help you transition your home from summer to fall in subtle, yet beautiful ways!

Orange is not the new _____! You don’t have to use orange and reds to incorporate fall tones into your decor. Try bringing in some greens and deep pinks! Clip some foliage from your own backyard. Nothing is better than free decor without having to go far!

Layer your home just like your outfit! What do we typically do when we feel that crisp cold air start to creep in? Add a scarf or a hoodie! Try adding layers to your home, too. Double up on throws and pillows for an extra cozy spot to cuddle into. Here I’ve added a layer of coziness to my summer throw blanket to give it that extra inviting factor. Great for curling up on a fall night with a movie.

Replace your summer flowers with the unexpected. I love having fresh flowers out all summer long but in the fall, I like to bring in some other elements for new textures. Try using cotton, dried grains, and some fall staples like acorns and gourds to create subtle fall vignettes.

Have fun with moving things around and looking for unexpected items you already have around the house. You don’t need to spend a lot to give your home a seasonal refresh.

I hope I’ve brewed up some new ideas for you. Now hurry off and brew up a hot pumpkin spice latte. You know you want to!

Until next time…

Ashley
